Gibraltar is positioned on the southern end of Iberian Peninsula at the mouth of Mediterranean is a British Overseas Territory. Gibraltar covers a total area of 6.8 square kilometers (2.6 square miles) and the economy of the country depends on tourism, online gaming, financial services and shipping industries. The name Gibraltar means “mountain of tariq” shares the border with Spain and English is the official language of the country followed by Spanish, Berber, Hindi, Sindhi, Hebrew and Arabic and majority of the people follow Roman Catholic religion. History of Gibraltar:

Gibraltar was inhabited between 128,000 and 24,000 BC by Neanderthal in Gorham’s Cave and later Greeks and Romans established the settlement in the region and after the fall of Romans, the country was ruled by Vandals. Almohad Sultan Abd al-Mu’min ordered to construct the fort in the year 1160 and after the completion of the fort he stayed for 2 months. King Henry IV of Castile captured the region and after six years it was invaded by the Duke of Medina Sidonia. After the American War of Independence, Gibraltar became the base for the British Royal Navy and played major role during Battle of Trafalga and during the World War II the country was evacuated to various countries in Europe.

Upper Rock Nature Preserve:

Upper Rock Nature Preserve is one of the main attractions in the country where one can come across St. Michael’s Cave, the Apes’ Den, the Great Siege Tunnels, and the ruins of the old Moorish Castle and tourists can also enjoy the cable car ride in the preserve and park is open from 9:30 am to 6:30 Pm daily.

 

Rock of Gibraltar:

Rock of Gibraltar is the main attraction and landmark of the country is a massive mineral promontory and situated 426 meters (1,398 feet) above the sea level and Rock is Crown property of the United Kingdom and the rock is covered by nature reserve.

 

Catalan Bay:

Catalan Bay is a small bay and fishing village in Gibraltar and known as La Caleta in Spanish and tourists can enjoy the beaches along the bay and there are number of restaurants and visited by thousands of tourists all over the year.

 

Eastern Beach:

Eastern Beach is the largest beach on The Rock and it is 100 meters long and is a sandy beach surrounded by industrial and residential areas and one of the most popular and most visited beaches in the country.
