Dholpur also called as Dhaulpur is a city in Dholpur District in Rajasthan State in India located between 26.7° N latitude and 77.9° E longitude. It is situated about 262 kms from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and lies in the eastern side of the state. Dhaulpur City is the administrative centre of Dhaulpur district and the district came into existence in the year 1982.

Dhaulpur is positioned at an altitude of 177 meters and the Pin Code of Dhaulpur is 328001. Dholpur District is bordered by Agra district of Uttar Pradesh in the north, Gwalior District and Bhind District of Madhya Pradesh to the south and east and Karauli district towards west.

Dhaulpur is famous for numerous educational institutions and also city known for several agro based industries and thermal power plants. Dhaulpur is visited by lakhs of tourists every year for its historical tourist attractions.

 

Mythology and History of Dholpur:-

According to the history, Dholpur was earlier called as ‘Dhawalgiri’ and ‘Dhaulagir’. It is believed that, Dholpur has existence since the Mahabharata Period. Mauryan Empire, Gupta Dynasty, Chauhans Empire, Tomar Empire, Yadava Dynasty, Delhi Sultans, Mughal Empire, Bhadauria Empire and Bamraulia Dynasty ruled Dholpur in the past.

Talab-e-Shahi:

Talab-e-Shahi is one of the major and prominent lakes in Rajasthan situated about 27 km from Dholpur city centre. Talab-e-Shahi lake and palace was constructed in the year 1617 A.D. The lake attracts varieties of migratory birds like shoveller, common pochard, garganey teal and wigeon.

 

Damoye:-

Damoye is a famous waterfall also top tourist attraction in Dholpur District is surrounded by full of large and green forest range with wild animals. During the months of July and September is a great time to reach Damoye Waterfall to enjoy the natural beauty.

 

Ramsagar Sanctuary:-

Ramsagar Sanctuary is a chief animal and bird reserve in near proximity with Ramsagar Lake and the lake has larger number of crocodiles, fishes and rare species of snakes. Also lake is home to several sand piper, moor hen, jacanas and ringed plover.

 

Van Vihar Wild Life Sanctuary:-

Van Vihar Wild Life Sanctuary is another major wildlife reserve located on Vindhyan Plateau stretched in an area of 59.86 sq. km.

 

National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary:-

National Chambal (Gharial) Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The sanctuary was established in 1978 covers an area of 5,400 km². It has greater numbers of mugger crocodiles, gharial and the rare Ganges River dolphin.
