Como is a city belonging to the region of Lombardy in Italy and covers an area of 37.34 sq. km. It is the seat of the Province of Como, located about 50 km north of Milan and 630 km northwest of Rome, the capital of Italy.

 

Geography of Como:

Como is geographically positioned between 45°48′43.2″ N latitude and 9°5′2.4″ E longitude at an average altitude of 200 meters.

 

History of Como:

Orobii, a Celtic tribe, who were the original settlers of Como, settled during the Bronze Age. It became part of the Romans during the 1st century BC and it was originally on the nearby hills but it was later shifted to what is today’s site, with the decree of Julius Caesar.

 

How to reach Como?

Milan Malpensa Airport and Milano Linate Airport are the closest airports to Como, situated around 60 km and 68 km away from the centre of Como city. Both of these airports have good connectivity all round Europe and few American destinations as well.

There are taxis always available at both of the above airports or tourists can use public buses to save money.

The Servizio Ferroviario Regionale is the major railway station in Como offering trains to rest of Italy and generally it costs around €3.60 from Milan to Como.

Como has an upgraded bus network, and taxis and rental bikes and cars are other useful options to get around.
