Chiang Saen is a district in Chiang Rai Province and it is located towards the northern part of Thailand. Chiang Saen covers a total area of 554 Sq Kms and it shares the border with Laos and Myanmar.

Chiang Saen was founded by Tai migrants and was named as Yonok and it was the major city of Lanna Rulers and was later ruled by Chao Kawila of Chiangmai, at present several ruins are found in the city.

Chiang Saen was bounded by Mae Sai, Mae Chan, Doi Luang, Chiang Khong, Wiang Kaen, Mae Fa Luang and Wiang Chiang districts and it is situated at the distance of 886 Kms from the capital of Thailand, Bangkok and coordinates of Chiang Saen is 20.2750° N, 100.0883° E.
