Basseterre is located in Saint Peter Basseterre parish, Saint Kitts and Nevis country in West Indies is the capital of the country. Basseterre is home to all the major financial activities and industries and the oldest city in the country. Basseterre is surrounded by Bayfords, Cayon St, Conaree Village and Lucas and coordinates are 17.3000° N, 62.7333° W.

 

History of Basseterre:

In the year 1627, the French established the Basseterre city under the rule of Sieur Pierre Belain d’Esnambuc and in the year 1639, the town became the prominent port in the island. Basseterre became the capital of the country in the year 1727, but the city was destroyed many times by colonial wars, fire, earthquake, hurricanes and floods.

Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park:

Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park is located at the distance of 14 kilometers from center of the city and the park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site Cannon were first mounted on Brimstone Hill in 1690 which was designed by the British Army.
