History of Jamaica:

Before the settlement of Spanish the island was inhabited by Arawak and Taino indigenous people between 4000 and 1000 BC. Columbus founded Jamaica in the year 1494, claimed for Spain, but after the establishment of Spain in the island native Arawak and Taino populaces died due to the diseases spread by the Spanish. The island was taken over by the British in the year 1655 and sugar estate was established in each parish which helped the economy of the country and sugar products were exported to various countries in the world.
