Canillo is a parish belonging to Andorra covering an area of 110 sq. km, situated 12 km northwest of Andorra la Vella, the capital of Andorra. Canillo is the home town of Xavier Capdevila Romero who is the famous Andorran ski mountaineer.

Sant Joan de Caselles:

The San Joan de Caselles is a Romanesque church dating back to the 12th century, situated 1 km away from the heart of Canillo. It is open for tourists from 10AM to 1PM and 3PM to 6PM (July to August). There are free guided tours available for tourist’s convenience.

 

Meritxell Sanctuary:

The Meritxell Sanctuary is devoted to the Patron Saint of Andorra, Virgin of Meritxell. It was initially built in the 12th century but was once destroyed by fire, reconstructed in 1976. There is the Andorra’s National Holiday celebrated grandly in the Meritxell Sanctuary on September 8. Entrance is free. It is generally open from 9:15AM to 1PM and 3PM to 6PM from July and August.

 

The cross of seven arms:

Situated on the track, the cross of seven arms was built in the Gothic style of architecture. Tourists can visit this typical site between 8AM and 5PM from Monday to Friday.
