Mong Hsat is situated in Asian continent towards the east of Myanmar in the Shan State. Mong Hsat Town in Mong Hsat District sited at a distance of 675 km from the countries capital city, Naypyidaw and economy of the town depends on agriculture and education. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 20032’ N and 99015’ E.

Mong Hsat is a hilly region famed for production of gem stones and there are many small industries in the town which produces the raw gems and tourists can visit few industries to buy the best gems.

 

Climate in Mong Hsat:

During summer season the average temperature is 270C and in winter temperature drops to 130C.

 

History of Mong Hsat:

As per historians, the Shan rulers were descendants of the Mongols who entered the region in the year 1287. Their reign ended in the year 1555. From the year 1555 till 1885, the region was under the reign of the Myanmar Empire. In the year 1887, the whole of Shan state was annexed by the British. Mong Hsat town too came under the British administration. In the year 1903, at the time of the British rule the Myanmar rail link was extended to Mong Hsat connecting the place to Mandalay. At the time of Second World War, Shan state fell into the hands of the invading Japanese forces. During this time the Japanese created an air base through which they conducted air raids in other parts of the country. After the end of the Second World War, the British regained control of the region and began development work. The year 1948 marked the beginning of Myanmar countries independence and the end of British rule in the country.

 

People & Culture of Mong Hsat:  

Languages spoken by the people of Mong Hsat are Burmese, Jingpho, Kayah, Karen, Chin, Mon, Rakhine and Shan. However, Burmese is the official language of the country. Singing and dancing forms an integral part of the country. There are different religions worshipped in Myanmar and majority of the population of Mong Hsat, worship Buddhism while others either follow Islam, Hinduism and Christianity.

Mong Hsat is located on the hills and roadway is only land transportation to reach the town and has well established networks of roadways to places within the country Myanmar. There are Buses available daily to places such as Taunggyi, Sakangyi, Mandalay, Yangon, etc and vice versa.

Inter city transportation is facilitated by Buses, Cycle, Van, Rickshaws and Taxis.
