Mawlamyine is located in the Asian continent towards the southeast of Myanmar in the Mon State. When translated into English language the word ‘Mawlamyine’ means damaged eye is renowned for its tropical fruits and cuisines. Mawlamyine is a town in the Mawlamyine District. The city is sited at a distance of 510 kms from the capital city Naypyidaw. The geographical coordinates puts the place at 16029’05” N and 97037’33” E.

 

Climate in Maulmyine:

Maulmyine has tropical climate with a lower humidity and during summer season the average temperature is 300C and in winter temperature drops to 200C.

 

History of Mawlamyine:

During the colonial era, Mawlamyine region formed the British’s first capital in the country Myanmar from the period 1826 to 1852. After the end of the first Anglo-Burmese war Mawlamyine was no longer the capital city. The year 1948, marked the beginning of independent Myanmar and the end of the British rule in the country.
