Charentsavan is a metropolis in Kotayk Province, Armenia. The city was established in the year 1948 and it was re-titled as Charentsavan as a commemoration to the poet Yeghishe Charents in the year 1967. The Kotayk area has abundance of splendid castles, ancient sites, spectacular natural sections that comprises of the rock-strewn peaks, unfathomable ravines, lush green river vales and striking Volcanoes. It is positioned in the epicenter of Armenia to the northeast section of the state capital Yerevan. Charentsavan is about 34 kms from Yerevan and about 122 kms from Gyumri. The coordinates of Charentsavan is 40°24′35″ N 44°38′35″ E and it is positioned 5450 feet above the sea level and for this elevation, even the summers remain very cool and soothing. Charentsavan was founded in the year 1947.

Tsakhkadzor
Tsakhkadzor is positioned just about 29 km from the city of Charentsavan. It is enveloped with high mounts, profound woodlands and charming forested vales. Tsakhkadzor literally means ‘gorge of flowers’. Originally it was the exercise foundation for the Soviet Olympic sportspersons. Tsakhkadzor houses swimming, diving pools, ski run site and football stadium.
Geghard Monastery
Geghard Monastery is just around 57 km from the city of Charentsavan. It houses the cathedrals such as Katoghike minster, Avazan cathedral, Saint Astvatsatsatsin minster, Catacombs such as Proshyan mausoleum and Upper Gavit.
Garni Temple
The Temple of Mithra that is recognized as the Garni shrine is the solitary protected model of Hellenistic structural design in Armenia. In the year 1697 due to seismic activity there shrine was damaged partially. Renovations started only during the 20th century. The shrine is devoted to Mithra. Mithra in Greek means “Helios” which literally means “Sun”.

Saint Sion Church

Kecharis Monastery
Kecharis Monastery is positioned in the northwest section of Tsakhkadzor. Kecharis Monastery houses the cathedrals of Saint Grigor Lusavorich cathedral, Saint Nshan minster, Saint Astvatsatsin/Katoghike cathedral and Saint Harutyun minster. The composite also encompasses of diverse khatchkars that dates back to 12th and 13th century.
