Kaup (Kapu) Beach – Serene and Tranquil Beach Vacation near Udupi, Karnataka, India
Kapu (kaup) beach is located in 12 kms south of Udupi in the village called Kaup and pronounced as “Kapu”. Situated on the coastal belt of Arabian Sea and famous for its beauty and peace. Kaup Beach is a wonderful shoreline arranged near NH17 between Udupi and Mangalore. It is situated at a separation of 16 Kms from Udupi Railway Station. The beacon arranged on a hillock at the northern end of the shoreline is a lovely sight to watch. The shoreline is a quiet place with nature’s excellence in wealth. The 100 feet high beacon was worked by the British and it’s a picture taker’s heaven.
The main attraction of Kaup is beach which has a Light house. The Light House at Kaup is constructed in 1901 and 27.12 m above the base. The Light House at Kaup is open for public between 4 PM and 6 PM and the panoramic view offered is superb.
Kaup beach is mostly visited to view its serene beauty with vast coastline. You can also visit the 120ft high Lighthouse, a fort and a temple of Goddess Mariamma. The view of the sea from the rock makes the beach look more interesting. Spiritual people can visit the 2 temples. One can enjoy the view of sea & sun set from the Light house in the sea shore. Entry ticket to light house is 10/- per head & camera at 20/-. It takes around 5min to climb to the top of the light house. on the shore you can find many stalls selling cool drinks & fast food. Nice place to spend a evening & watch the sunset.
Photography can be done here as this beach offers you with the best landscapes and one hear the sound of the waves from a long distance. This beach is mainly famous for its beauty, calm and peace. Blue waters surrounded by the swaying greenery give a spectacular view. Kaup is a perfect holiday spot to enjoy with your family and friends. If you are passing on the national highway via Kaup, it is recommended that you visit Kaup Beach to get yourself refreshed.
Accommodation is not difficult as you can find many bars and restaurants right on the beachfront. Enjoy the traditional cuisine and other local stuff that are found in the beach stalls. A perfect hand out with your family and friends.
It would be better if you visit this beach in the months of November and May as the beach is cool and calm during this time.

This beach is connected with all the modes of transport and by road the beach is just 10 km away from Udupi, 45 kms from Mangalore and about 400 kms from Bangalore and Mangalore airport is the nearest.
- By Air: The nearest airport is Mangalore. Thereafter, you have to make a trip by road.
- By Rail: The nearest stations are at Udupi and Mangalore. Kaup is a 25-minute journey from the town of Udupi.
- By Road: Owing to its apt location on the West Coast National Highway between Udupi and Mangaluru, Kaup is best accessible by road. The distance between Kaup and several other places can be calculated as follows: Udupi (12 km), Mangalore (45 km), Bengaluru (410 km), and Manipal (15 km). There are regular buses that ply between the aforementioned cities/towns that connect Kaup.
