Goya is a city located in the Corrientes province of Argentina on the eastern shore of the River Parana at the coordinates of 29°8′ S 59°15′ W. It is renowned for its annual celebration of the National Festival of the Surubí (fishing contest).

 

Geography of Goya:

Goya is situated about 220 km south of Corrientes (provincial capital) and 710 km north of Buenos Aires (national capital) at an elevation of 62 meters.

 

History of Goya:

The history of Goya dates back to 1771 when the land of the present city was purchased by Gregoria Morales and her husband, Bernardo Olivera. It takes its name from ‘Doña Goya’ which was the nickname of Gregoria Morale. Goya was officially founded as a town in the year 1807.

 

Connectivity to Goya:

Goya has an airport located 6 km away from the centre of the city, served by few scheduled and charter flights.
