Nurek also called as Nurak is a city situated in Khatlon province of Tajikistan, about 72 kms southeast of national capital Dushanbe. The city was formed in the year 1960 and known for military establishment and famous Nurek Dam.

Nurek is positioned between latitude 38°23′ in the north and longitude 69°19′ in the east is located at an altitude of 885 meters.

 

Nurek Dam:

Nurek Dam is one of the biggest dams in Tajikistan on the banks of Vakhsh River. The construction of dam was started in 1961 and was completed in the year 1980. With a height of 300 meters Nurek Dam is the highest man made dam with more than 700 meters length.

Nurek Reservoir:
