History of Georgetown:

Dutch established the town during the 18th century on the banks of the Demerara River but the colony was confined by British in the year 1781. In the year 1782, French captured the region and developed the town and later made the capital of the colony and named the town as La Nouvelle Ville, but in the year 1784, Dutch regained the power and ruled the town. The town was renamed as Georgetown in the honor of King George III in the year 1812.
