Sekondi-Takoradi is a city made up of two different cities Sekondi and Takoradi, situated on the coastal line of the country, around 220 km southwest of the national capital, Accra. It is the administrative centre both Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan District and the Western Region. Sekondi-Takoradi owns an industry based economy, dominated by the timber, plywood and shipbuilding industries.

The first name of Sekondi-Takoradi, Sekondi was noted as the location of Dutch Fort Orange that geared up towards development in 1903 with the construction of railroad. Takoradi was originated as the location of Dutch Fort Witsen in the 17th century. These different cities were merged in 1946.
