Beautiful Tourist Places to Visit in Farah, Afghanistan

Farah is a small city situated in Farah Province in western Afghanistan lying at an altitude of 2130 feet above sea level. The city lies close to river Farah and coordinates with 32.20’ degree North Latitude and 62.7’10” degree East Longitude.

 

History of Farah:

Earlier Farah was ruled by Alexander the Great when the city became a part of his rule in early 320 B.C. It came under the rule of Partian Empire during 1st century A.D. and later came under the rule of Sassanid rule in 5th century A.D. During the early part of 18th century, it was a part of Hotaki dynasty followed by Durrani Empire. In the 12th century, Farah was invaded by Muhamud Ghazni and literally came under the rule of the Mughals. The Sultan of Herat, Sultan Jan captured Farah, but was later overthroned by Dost Mohammad in the year 1862.

This is one of the ancient forts or the Citadels built by Alexander the Great.

 

Farah River:

This is one of the rivers flowing through the city of Farah is an ideal tourist and picnic spot. Tourists can undertake water sporting activities in Farah River like swimming, fishing, rafting etc.

 

Weather in Farah:

Since Farah lies in the near vicinity of desert the place experiences very hot and dry summers with maximum temperature exceeding above 40 degrees. Alternatively the region is also very cold during months of winter with minimum temperature falling below -25 degrees.

 

Connectivity to Farah in Afghanistan:

Farah is quite well connected by road and air mode of transport. Route 515 connects Farah to Ring Road and other western cities like Herat. Farah also has an airport, but most of the time the airport is used for carrying troops and soldiers. The nearest city is Herat located about 275 kms from Farah.
