Bacau is a city in Bacau County located in east part of Romania and spans over an area of 41.3 square kilometers (15.9 square miles) and lies at normal elevation of 165 meters (541 feet) above the sea level. Bacau is surrounded by Carpathian Mountains and the River Bistrita flows through the city make it one of the pleasant cities in the county.

Bacau is bounded by Letea Veche, Luizi-Calugara, Nicolae Balcescu, Tamasi, Buhoci, Saucesti, Hemeius, Prajesti, Traian, and Faraoani and located at the distance of 290 kilometers from Bucharest, capital of Romania. Coordinates of Bacau are 46.5833° N, 26.9167° E.

History of Bacau:

As per the records it is believed that Bacau was inhabited during 6^th and 7^th centuries and was first mentioned in the year 1408, when Prince Alexander the Good of Moldavia captured the town and established colonies. During the 15^th century market was established in Bacau town and an Orthodox church also erected during this era but later the town was attacked and destroyed. During the 17^th century numerous Catholic populaces abandoned the town due the regular invasions by foreign armies. In the year 1851, first paper mill was established in Moldavia and in the year 1968, Bacau was declared as the municipality.
