Yelagiri is a hill station located in Vellore District in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. This hill station is covered by orchards, green valleys and rose-gardens stretches an area of 30 sq. km. and is positioned at an altitude of 1,410 meters. Yelagiri is located between 12°34′41″N latitude and 78°38′27″ E longitude. Yelagiri is a fabulous tourist destination situated about 227 km from state capital Chennai and about 157 km from Bangalore City.

Adventure sports like paragliding and rock climbing are most popular in Yelagiri. Yelagiri is considered as the trekker’s paradise houses beautiful hills like Javadi Hills and Palamathi Hills. History of Yelagiri:

Yelagiri was earlier known as Elagiri lies between Jolarpettai and Vaniyambadi Towns. Before the Indian Government taking over Yelagiri in 1950, the entire region of Yelagiri was under the ancestral rule of Yelagiri Zamindar Family.

Swamimalai Hill:

Jalagamparai Waterfall:

A beautiful Jalagamparai Waterfall is located 14 km from Tirupattur Town. It is surrounded by dense forest magnetizes nature lovers all around the state and nearby states. Also Jalagamparai Waterfall is in near proximity with Lord Shiva  and Murugan Temple. During the months of winter season, especially November to February is the ideal time to reach Jalagamparai Waterfall.

 

Nature Park:

Nature Park is stretched over an area of 12 acres adjoining a cool Punganoor Lake. This park is well known for its artificial waterfall, children’s park, fish aquarium, seasonal garden, bamboo house, poly house and musical fountain. Also the park houses the rare species of plants.

 

Punganur Lake:

Punganur Lake is very popular for its boating and rowing activities. Floriculture Garden and Mughal Garden are located just near the lake. Punganur Lake is one of the must see places in Yelagiri.

 

Velavan Temple:

Velavan Temple is a Hindu worship place devoted to Lord Shiva. There are major festivals of Lord Shiva organized and between July and August annual fair held in Velavan Temple. The prime attraction of the temple is the figurine of Lord Shiva.
