Vejle is the capital city of the Vejle Municipality and the Region of Southern Denmark in Denmark covering an area of 144 sq. km. It is situated about 75 km from the largest city of the region, Odense and 235 km from the national capital, Copenhagen. With a population of 52,449 (as of the recent census), the city of Vejle ranks 9th in population in Denmark. Together with Kolding and Fredericia (neighboring cities), Vejle forms Trekantomrade (Triangle Area).

History of Vejle:

The name of Vejle comes from the position of the city at a crossing over Vejle River and likely derived from the word ‘wæthel’ which means ‘ford’ or ‘wading place’. The first settlement was recorded in Vejle in the 1100s and Vejle received municipal charter in the year 1327. Vejle geared up towards development with the establishments of many cotton mills between the middle 19th century and the 20th century.
