Bacolod is the capital city of Negros Occidental in western Visayas region in Philippines and is one of the most populated cities in this Province spreading over an area of 162.67 sq kms and lying at an elevation of 30 feet above sea level. Bacolod Meaning & History:

Bacolod is derived from local word meaning a hill, mound or a hillock as the place is located at an elevation level. Since the early settlements were found in a hilly area, the place came to be called as Bacolod in course of time. Formerly Bacolod was under Spanish colonial rule between the 17th and 18th centuries. Gradually it became a part of Negros Revolution in the late 18th century followed by American Colonial Rule in the early 19th century. Bacolod came under the Japanese occupation during the Second World War in the year 1945 and finally it became a part of Independent Philippines in the year 1947-1948.
