Nagarkot is a village situated in Bhaktapur District in Nepal about 4 km away from the state capital Kathmandu. Nagarkot is one of the top tourist destinations in Bhaktapur District positioned at a height of 4,195 meters from the mean level of sea.

Nagarkot provides a best view of Mount Everest, Kathmandu Valley and Himalayan Ranges. The village is located between latitude 28°.06’ in the north and longitude 75°.20’ in the east.

 

Culture of Nagarkot:

Nepal is a Hindu country, so almost all the people of Nagarkot are Hindus and a small percentage of Buddhists. Nepalese is the official language and a widely spoken language in Nagarkot. Other languages spoken in Nagarkot include Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tamang, Tharu, Newari, Magar, Thulung and Limbu.

Dashain is a famous festival celebrated from late September to mid October. Buddha Jayanti and Maha Shivaratri are other famous festivals celebrated with great enthusiasm by the natives of Nagarkot. Sel Roti, Momo, Sukuti, Thukpa and dal-bhat-tarkari are the popular dishes in Nagarkot.

Due to the near proximity with Kathmandu, Nagarkot has got good connectivity with its nearby regions and the major regions of the country. The major bus stations located near Nagarkot are Green Line Bus Station, Chautara Bus Station, Gongabu Bus Station and Maitidevi Micro Bus Station.

Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport in situated in Kathmandu, 11 km away from Nagarkot.

Pashupatinath Temple:

Pashupatinath Temple is positioned on the banks of River Bagmati devoted Lord Shiva and is considered as biggest Hindu Temple in the globe. The annual and the main festival of Lord Shiva ‘Maha Shivratri’ celebration magnetizes pilgrims across the country. The 6 feet height black colored idol of Lord Shiva and the temple are built with pagoda style architecture.

 

The Bhimsen Tower:

The Bhimsen Tower is placed in the centre of Kathmandu City. It is said that this 50.2 meters height tower was constructed in the year 1832 by Bhimsen Thapa to fulfill the order of the queen of the country. The entry fee is 100 NPR per head.

 

Guhyeshwari Temple:

Guhyeshwari Temple is devoted to Goddess Parvati situated in the vicinity of Pashupatinath Temple. The Bhutanese architectural style used to design Guhyeshwari Temple.

Boudhanath:

Boudhanath is a Buddha stupa located about 12 km from the heart of Kathmandu City. It is considered as one of the biggest stupas in Nepal and a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized in the year 1979. There are two theories about the origin of the stupas, one theory states that the stupas were constructed by King Siva Deva during 604 AD and another theory states that, the stupas were built by King Manadeva during 505 AD.
