About Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu:

Krishnagiri is a city located in Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu approx 90 kms from Bangalore and 45 kms from Hosur. History about Krishnagiri:

Sufficient evidences have shown that Krishnagiri had existed in times of Paleolithic, Neolithic and Mesolithic Ages as many rock paintings and rock carvings belonging to Indus Valley Civilization are seen in this city. Initially Krishnagiri was ruled by Kongu and Chera rulers and later by Cholas, Cheras, Pallavas, Cheras and Hoysalas. A currency minting industry was setup in the year 1794 A.D. where gold, silver, copper coins were minted. During Mysore First War, the British troops were defeated by Hyder Ali’s forces.

Krishnagiri Hills:

The reservoir is the main source of supply of drinking water to the city of Krishnagiri. The dam provides an ideal picnic spot for entire family.

There is a ruined fort built by Tipu Sultan on the top of Syed Basha Hills which attracts many local as well as international tourists.

Ramapuram:

Ramapuram lies few kms from Krishnagiri which has a temple of lord Rama dating back to 500 years that attracts many visitors each year.

Government Museum:

The museum was setup in the year 1993 which showcases traditional culture, art, architecture, Heritage and history. The museum has many collections of paintings, statues, inscriptions, artifacts which are neatly displayed for public viewing and is one of the popular tourist attraction site in Krishnagiri.

Thali:

Thali is one of the beauty scenic destinations located on the Karnataka Tamil Nadu border which is approx 25 kms from Hosur. It was often called as ‘The Little England’ due to its moderate, temperate and cool climate. Many people from Chennai and nearby areas visit this place during summer, because it has a cool and pleasant weather.

Rayakottah:

Rayakottah is famous for its forts is approx 30 kms from Hosur known for historic monuments. The fort was built by the British in the year 1861 that withstood the Mysore War.

Kelavarapalli Reservoir Project:

The dam is one of the prime attractions of Krishnagiri which is an ideal picnic spot situated approx 10 kms from Hosur constructed across river Ponnair.

Venugopala Swamy Temple:

This temple is dedicated to lord Krishna is famous for its Chariot festival which takes place during month of May which draws huge devotees and tourists at this point of time.

Rajaji Memorial:

This monument is dedicated to Rajaji a brave freedom fighter who was born in this place. Presently this has been converted into a memorial which is about 10 kms from Hosur. It is one of the major tourist attractions in Krishnagiri.

Hanumanthathirtham:

This is one of the sacred pilgrimage center near Krishnagiri which is located on the banks of river Ponnaiyar. Many devotees visit the place during Tamil month of Aadi which falls during July and August.

Mallachandram:

This place is famous for megalithic specimens called dolmens which are known as burial chambers located at 19 kms from Krishnagiri. The place is maintained and preserved by Archeological Survey of India.

Arulmigu Maragathamigai Chandra Choodeshwara Temple:

The temple is located on a hillock which has a temple dedicated to lord Shiva and attracts many tourists and devotees all round the year. Other attractions include a childrens park and an observatory tower set up by the tourism board.

Bangalore:

Bangalore is about 91 kms from Krishnagiri famous for gardens, shopping, temples, cuisines, cosmopolitan culture, IT and ITES.
