Ahmednagar is a township in Maharashtra, India. Ahmednagar has history dated back to 1490 A.D, which is precisely more than 500 years. History of Ahmednagar

Ahmednagar was one of the five Bahmani Kingdoms. The kingdom was ruled by Mohamed Gawan, which was afterward succeeded by Nizam-ul-Mulk. Ahmednagar was an estate under Nizam-ul-Mulk and was managed by Malik Ahmed. In the year 1489, Malik Ahmed became the prime minister of the Brahmin Kingdom and in 1491 he laid the foundation of the city and entitled it after himself as Ahmednagar. He established new sultanate namely Nizam Shahi dynasty which was declined under Shah Jahan in the year 1633. In the year 1763, the province came under Marathas.

Ahmednagar Fort

It is located in the heart of the city built by Ahmed Nizam Shah around 15th century. The fort has 18 meters elevated fortifications that are supported by 22 bastions. It was used as a penitentiary for captured enemy soldiers.

The museum holds more than 40,000 historical documents, 11000 manuscripts and 9000 coins with various ancient artifacts of previous centuries.

Shri Vishal Ganapathi Temple

Tank Museum

The museum is home to an immense gathering of tanks used by rulers during different periods. One of the principal attractions in the museum is the Mark-I fitted with a tractor engine used during World War I. The other important appeal of the museum is the amphibious tanks that were developed for the Normandy Landings during World War II.

Earlier Pauri Garhwal district was a division of Garhwal Kingdom ruled by the famous Pal dynasty. Gurkhas conquered the lands of Garhwal by defeating the King of Paul Dynasty ‘Pradyumna Shah’ in the year 1803.
