History of Aronda

The village of Aronda was in the beginning called as Aravande, which was a derivative from Aravind that refers to flower lotus. The past dates back to 19th century when a high school was built in the entrance of the village. It is said that the school emerged in the early 19th century by the King of Sawantwadi Sansthan, H H Khem Sawant who was the ruler then. It is home to the Mahatma Gandhi Valchan Mandir which was established on 2nd October 1948 and has number of very old and new books.

Shiroda Beach

Redi Ganpati Temple

Fort Terekhol

Fort Terekhol lies on the banks of river Terekhol in the northern section of Goa.  The fortification was raised in the early 17th century by the sovereign of Sawantwadi Maharaja Khem Sawant Bhonsle. In the year 1764, the Portuguese viceroy Pedro Almeida restructured the fortress. In the later part of the century somewhere around 1788 the Fort Terekhol came under the jurisdiction of Goa.
