Borovets is a mountain resort town belonging to the province of Sofia in Bulgaria lying on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain between 42°15′52″ N latitude and 23°36′25″ E longitude. It is situated about 1350 meters above sea level, around 125 km away from Plovdiv and 75 km away from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Skiing is allowed between 9.00 am to 4.30 pm and 5 pm till 10 pm (night skiing).

 

History of Borovets:

The history of Borovets dates back to 1896 when it was initially founded as a hunting site for the kings of Bulgaria. It was geared up towards development into a modern ski resort with establishments of hotels and restaurants around and the up gradation of ski runs and lifts. The Borovets resort also witnessed the World Cup Alpine Skiing rounds in the years 1981 and 1984.
