History of Baia Mare:

Baia Mare was settled due the pleasant climate and due to the River Sasar and was inhabited by Thracian tribes during the Bronze Age and gold and silver mining was carried out during the King Burebista era. Baia Mare became prosperous town during the rule of Louis I of Hungary due to the mining industry and St. Stephen Cathedral was constructed in the town.
