Hrazdan is the capital city of Kotayk province in Armenia. It is 5th largest city in Armenia in terms of population. Hrazdan is located about 45 kms northeast of national capital Yerevan.

Hrazdan is one of the industrial hubs of Armenia and houses one of the largest thermo electrical power stations of the province. Also Hrazdan houses cement factory, electrical equipment production centres, dairy products and cattle-breeding production units and carpet manufacturing centres as well. Geography of Hrazdan:

Hrazdan is located between 40°30′0″ N latitude and 44°46′0″ E longitude and has an average elevation of 1,750 meters. It occupies an area of 21 sq. km.

Hrazdan is positioned in the northeastern side of Armenia, surrounded by Pambak mountains range in the north, Geghama Mountains in the east and Tsakhkunyats mountains range towards southwest.

 

History of Hrazdan:

Hrazdan got its name from the Middle-Persian name Frazdan. It was established in the year 1959 and formed as a capital of Kotayk province in 1995.
