History of Dumaguete:

Dumaguete is derived from the Visayan word ‘daggit’ means ‘to snatch’. It was earlier known as Dananguet and the present name of Dumaguete was referred by Murillo Velarde in the year 1734.

Dumaguete was formed as a city on June 15, 1948, before this it witnessed the World War II.
