Ngo Quyen, lord of Vietnamese in 938 AD defeated the Chinese Army and reclaimed the independence and renamed the region as Dai Viet which means Great Viet and the region prospered under the rule of Ly and Tran Dynasty and later it was ruled by Ming, Ho and Le dynasty.

French occupied the region in the year 1887, during the rule of French they developed Vietnam region and constructed various churches, buildings and transportation system was well developed and also planted the cash crops in the region and made the major trading ports and French ruled the region until Second World War in the year 1940.

From the year 1945 to 1975, many wars were fought between French Republic and Vietnamese.
