Formerly Port Dickson was called as Tanjung which means “peninsular” in Malay language as it used to be a small town known for producing charcoal but gradually gained strategic prominence during the rule of the British who developed it as a small port. Since the officer in charge who was stationed at this port was called Dickson, the place too came to be named as Port Dickson.
