History of Fredrikstad:

Fredrikstad region was established by King Frederick II in the year 1567 but was burned to ground during the Northern Seven Years War and later the king decided to reconstruct the town at the better location than the old one. During the battle between Sweden and Denmark-Norway between the years 1644 and 1645, temporary fortification was constructed and later various renovations were carried out. Fredrikstad gained its momentum due to timber exporting during the 1840s and railway line was linked to city in the year 1879.
