Kakinada is a well known city situated in East Godavari District in the Indian State of Andra Pradesh. It is popularly known as Fertilizer City, Pensioner’s Paradise and Second Madras. Kakinada is the administrative headquarter of East Godavari District and is placed about 465 km east of state capital Hyderabad. Kakinada is in 6th position in the field of area and in 9th position in the field of population in the state.

Kakinada City covers an area of 192.3 sq. km. and is located between latitude 16.93° in the north and longitude 82.33° in the east. Kakinada is positioned at an altitude of 2 meters and the Postal Code of Kakinada begins from 533001. The climate of the Kakinada is usually tropical savanna.

Kakinada falls under Special Economic Zone houses numerous natural gas and petroleum units, sugar factories, two fertilizer industries, edible oil refineries and bio fuel plants, power generation units, IT centres, electronics company, rice mills, fabrication units and machine shops.

 

Etymology of Kakinada:

There are several theories about the origin of name Kakinada. One theory states that Kakinada derives its name from nearby region Kakinandiwada and another one states that the British named the region as Cocanada, which gradually changed to the present Kakinada.

Coringa Sanctuary:

Coringa Sanctuary is stretched over an area of about 235 sq. km. and houses more than 30 types of mangrove plants, other different types of trees, grass, shrubs and herbs. It has near proximity with Kakinada City and is home to crested serpent eagle Indian roller, white-bellied woodpecker, scarlet minivet and flamingos.

 

Draksharamam:
