Saskatoon draws its name from the Cree inanimate word ‘Misaskwatomina’ means ‘saskatoon berries’. The first known permanent settlement of Saskatoon was led by John Neilson Lake in 1883. Saskatoon was incorporated as a city on 1906 including the Riversdale and Nutana communities.
