History of Srikakulam

During the reign of Muslim rulers, Srikakulam was then known as Gulshanabad and formed the center of administration under their reign. In the year 1707, this place formed the center of administration and taxes were collected by the Nizam of Hyderabad. The East India Company defeated the French in a war that took place in the year 1756 and established their supremacy in this region. After the East India Company defeated the Muslim rulers, the place was named Chicacole. After the year 1947, which marked the beginning of Indian Independence the name of the place was changed to Srikakulam.
