Hanoi is a city and the capital of Vietnam is the second largest city which covers an area of 3,344.7 Sq Kms. History of Hanoi:

Hanoi was inhabited from 3,000 BC and Ly Dynasty ruled from the year 1010 and renamed the region as Thang Long and it served as the capital of Dai Viet until the year 1397.

Ming Dynasty from China attacked Vietnam in the year 1408 and captured the region and in the year 1428 Vietnamese defeated the Chinese and retained the region.

Nguyen Dynasty established their power in the year 1802 and moved the capital to Hue and in the year 1831, Minh Mang ruler renamed the city as Hanoi and later in the year 1873, the city was captured by French and declared as the capital of French Indochina.
