Devprayag is a town situated in Tehri Garhwal District in the Indian State of Uttarkhand. It also covers some areas of Pauri Garhwal District and lies between latitude 30.146315° in the north and longitude 78.598251° in the east at the confluence of Alakanda and Bhagharthi River. Devprayag is placed at an elevation of 830 meters and its Postal Code starts from 249301.

Devprayag is a famous tourist destination with natural beauty of Alaknanda River and worship places like Raghunath Ji Temple, Chandrabadni Temple and Mata Bhuvneshwari temple.

 

Origin and History of Devprayag:-

According to history, Devprayag received its name from sage Devasharma and it is believed that Devasharma led his ascetic life in Devprayag. The literal meaning of Devprayag in Sanskrit Language is ‘Godly Confluence’. On the banks of Bhagirathi River, the pyramidal shaped Raghunathji Temple is located and was made with bigger stones. Devprayag was ruled by Garhwal Kingdom and British Empire earlier.
