Asansol is a conurbation in West Bengal, India in the Burdwan District.  Asansol is well commercialized and has excellent infrastructure. History of Asansol

Dravidian and Austroloids were the primitives of Asansol. Approximately 2500 years ago, it became a region of major Jain activity. It is said that Asansol was home to the last Tirthankar of Jain religion Mahavira Vardhmana. In the later times, it was annexed by the Vishnupur kingdom where the Malla dynasty ruled over for decades. One can find attestation of Jain activities and Vishnupur style in the Jain temples at Begunia and Chhotodighari village.

Nehru Park 

Nehru Park is positioned on the banks of River Damodar in the vicinity of Asansol. The park amuses the visitors with its enchanting charm. It has a musical fountain which enhances the charm of the park. Boating is also provided for entertainment here.

 

Churulia 

Churulia is a small township positioned 16 km away from Asansol. Kazi Nazrul Islam who was a freedom fighter and Bengali poet was born here.  The Nazrul Academy holds several medallions, documents and other assets of the great poet. On the centennial of this national poet the whole week is dedicated to its celebration.

Kalyaneshwari Temple  

The Kalyaneshwari Temple is renowned as the temple of the Lady of Fulfillment. The antique temple is 500 years old. The preliminary construction was done by Harigupta in 3rd Century and later it was fulfilled by Panchakot King. It is located 20 km away from the Asansol city. Women who are infertile offer their prayers here.

 

Maithan

Maithan is dam positioned on river Damodar which is very popular among the visitors. The sightseer takes pleasure in the picturesque splendor and the cool gentle wind that blows here. The view of sunrise and sunset is so incredible that it makes the traveler feel enthralled.

Best season to visit Asansol is October to November when the weather is very pleasurable. Summer is very hot but still one can visit the place.
