<p>Fatehpur Sikri once served the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1571 to 1586. The city was under the reign of India’s greatest Mughal Empire Akbar. After conquering Chittor and Ranthambore, the emperor decided to make Fatehpur Sikri his capital. It took him 15 years to build a fortified palace with courts, mosque and various other utilities within the boundaries of the palace. The word Fatehabad is derived from the Persian language meaning ‘Victory’. The emperor saw to it that most of the complex structural and design works were based on Persian principles. The city, Fatehpur Sikri happens to be one of the best architectural works planned and designed by the Mughals in India.</p>

<p>According to ancient history, Faizabad was known as Saket which happened to be the palace of King Dashrath of the Ramayana era. In the Sanskrit language Saket means Heaven. But in the pre-colonial times, Faizabad became  the first capital of the Nawabs of Awadh. Saadat Khan happened to be the first Nawab to rule Faizabad in 1722.
