Moti Masjid – The Pearl Mosque

Shah Jahan raised the Moti Masjid also called as Pearl Mosque. The name of the mosque was given seeing the brilliance of the mosque. It seems to look like a white pearl. It took almost 6 years to complete this structure. It was started in the year 1648 and was successfully completed in the year 1654. The expenses were around 3 lakhs.

Architectural Brush of the Moti Masjid

This mosque is decorated elegantly on the footnotes of the Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It is constructed on the slopes from east to the west. There are side cloisters for the courtyard of this mosque. There are arched depressions and the main portico in this mosque. The roof of the sanctuary is made of 3 globular domes that are made of white marbles. They are made to rest on red sandstone walls. You get to see the Hindu style arched kiosks by the side of the walls. There are seven bays that are separated into many passageways that stand on the berths and lobed arches. Shah Jahan has made use of the white marble for architecture and the exteriors are made of red sandstone.

Other Specific Details of the Mosque

The mosque is entirely covered of marble. There is a tank that is located at the center. There is a sundial that is composed of an octagonal marble pillar. This is the pillar that is situated in one corner of this sundial. The pergola surrounds the courtyard in the north, south and the east of the twelve-sided pillars. You can find the cusped arches in the prayer hall. The main entrance of the mosque faces the east and it is huge and interesting. The other 2 subsidiary gates on the northern and southern side of the building are not so attractive. They have arches and three-square chhatris boast each other.

Location of Moti Masjid

It is situated to the north of the Diwan-i-Am complex in the Agra Fort. It is not a risk for you to reach this mosque from Agra. Agra is a major tourist destination of India and hence is well linked by air, road and rail. You can visit this place from any part of India.

If you really are looking forward to have a historical tour in India, Karnataka is the place for you. Though it is one of the most advanced IT sector hubs in the world, it is also one place that is famous for its connection with the deep roots of the Indian history and culture. This coastal southwestern state of India, with its fuzzy warm tropical climate and awesome scenic beauty, is a great tourist destination and no doubt, a must place to go when you want to explore the south India. When you are going to Karnataka, what is one thing that you DON’T want to miss? You cannot miss Kittur, one of the most historical places in the state of Karnataka. Kittur is rather a small town, interesting and famous for its old monuments, palaces and statues. You must have heard about Queen Chennamma? She was that woman of Kittur who posed a massive resistance to the British.

During the raj of British India, it passed under the Bombay Presidency. It contains the ruined Kittur fort, which was the residence of the chief. During some dispute about succession on who will be the next chief in the year 1824, the St. John Thackeray, the Dharwad commissioner, was killed in the battle. And thus the queen Chennamma was seized and jailed in the BailHongal Jail. She expired away in the jail itself. From then, Chennamma was considered to be a legend.

One of the most notable tourist attractions of this place is Kittur Chennamma Fort. Kittur is famous for the Kittur Chennamma Fort. It is an evidence of the great freedom struggle of India. It is situated around 50 kilometers from Belgaum and around 32 kilometers from Dharwad. Not only is it important to the Indian archaeological society but also acts as a sign of women’s pride and bravery. During the revolt of 1857, queen Chennamma led the march against the British, after the launch of ‘Doctrine of Lapse’. It is a great chapter of the Indian history, and though Kittur is a small, unsung town, it still holds an important place in the Indian freedom struggle. Moreover, not only does it mark its place in the Indian freedom history, but also it is a great example of the architectural value and excellence.

Indian government has been taking some protection of the precious monuments and statues, and has been preserving the Indian heritage earnestly. Kittur and Kittur Chennamma Fort is not only a place of pride for the domestic tourists but also a piece of precious historical and cultural heritage for the international tourists. If you are visiting the Karnataka, you have to visit Kittur. And when you visit Kittur, you have to visit one of the best heritage destinations in Karnataka, which is Kittur Chennamma Fort.

Hampi – Heritage Destinations in Karnataka

“If dreams were made out of stone, it would be Hampi” – there goes a saying like that. Truly, Hampi was one of the places where you get to find the glance of the golden rule period in India. Hampi was the center seat of the Vijayanagar Empire and was a mark of the beauty and glory of the Vijayanagar dynasty. It was established by the Vidyaranya saint, with his two disciples Bukka and Hakka, in the beginning of the 14th century AD. It was a huge empire covering over the three states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. In fact, it was the largest empire in the post-Mogul era. And it was the center of the music, art and architecture. Temples were re-erected, musicians and scholars were patronized, and a boost was given to the Indian culture as a whole. The rich Indian heritage was being encouraged, the city was flourished and the welfare of the subjects was made the most important priority during the rule of the notable king, Krishnadevaraya.

But all of this ended when the Mogul raiders attacked the empire, ransacking and looting the innocent civilians and the riches of the empire. It was the mark of end of the golden rule of the Vijayanagar Empire. Everything was ruined and turned into dust. Every mark of glory was obliterated from the memory. Due to the sudden, shocking and brutal attack of the raiders, Vijayanagar Empire crumbled down to the savage massacre. The whole joyous city was reduced to rubble of stones, pebbles and vegetation. That’s how you will find the Hampi today. But behind that ruined carcass and wrecked remains, you will feel the sweet smell of the Indian glorious past.

With the turbulent Tungabhadra on one side and surrounded by a rocky granite terrain on the three other sides, this place though as ruined as it may be, it is still a prominent attestation of the splendor, the grandeur of the mighty empire that once reigned over here. The magnificent remains spark of the wealth and riches of what the place was once was. It is not only a matter of pride for the domestic people but also for the international counterparts as well. That’s why Hampi is being considered as a ‘World Heritage Center’ and is being taken proper care by the ‘Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority’, established in the year 2002.

And you get a notice of that when you are travelling from Kamalapura to Hampi. Just three kilometers in, you will come across the Malyavanta Raghunathaswamy temple. Built on the Dravidian style of art, the weird marine monsters and animals carved on the outer walls are sure to mesmerize you. Then emerge the famous Hampi Bazaar. No dearth of beautiful colorful houses here!

Go a little west of the Hampi Bazaar and you find the Virupaksha temple. The style dates back to the 11-12th century and parts of this temple is well before the Vijayanagar rule even. One of the amazing parts of the temple is the over 100 feet tall tower near the east entrance. And then there’s the single boulder tower called the Ugra Narasimha. Built by the king Krishnadevaraya, it is a great piece of architecture.

Then, how can you miss the 56 musical pillared Vithala Temple Complexes? The stone chariot on the stone wheels…is something you just cannot miss. With some huge pillars cut from only one block of stone, these monument is a spectacle. Though it has been attacked brutally and much of its glory has been lost, it still happens to retain its wrecked beauty, and it is considered to be a protected heritage by the government.

Then there’s the beautiful Victory House that was built on the occasion of the victory of Krishnadevaraya over the Oriya King. He would sit on the throne and watch the Dasara festival. It is elegantly printed and carved along the walls, pillars and corners. On the west side, a path goes to the private royal worship place called the Hazara Ramaswamy temple. Decorated with scenes from the Ramayana, this temple brings back relation of the place to the Kishkindha monkey kingdom.

You will find the King’s Balance over here. He was weighed against gold, money and grain, which were to be distributed among the subjects. Then there’s the private Queen’s Bath. Well, you can peep in there! Do you think it is finished? You are so mistaken. You have the Lotus Mahal, the Elephant Stables (a great example of the mix of Hindu and Muslim style of architecture), the Pushkarini Tank, Mahanavami Dibba (a platform for the royal family during the Mahanadu festival), the figure of Mustard Ganesh, and the recently discovered Noblemen’s Palace.

If you are a great animal lover and you always thought what the Indian sloth bear would look like, the Daraji Bear Sanctuary is the place for you. Launched in 1994, it has been a great residence for the species since then.

The best part is that the government is thinking about introducing the night tourism scheme, whereby the tourists will be ushered into the illuminated remains of the past during the night. It creates a mystical and awesome atmosphere no doubt and some extreme experience for the tourists. You will also love the magic of the Vijayanagar festival as well. Do you think it’s finished now? It NEVER will. That’s Hampi for you.

One of the best heritage destinations in Karnataka, Hampi is the place to go if you want to explore India a bit better.

Vagator beach is 24 kms away from the capital called the Panaji. It is likely to be the most famous beach. If you are searching for a silent, calm place with your family and friends then this beach is the best option. You can watch the complete Arabian Sea from this place. As soon as you arrive a sip of the Bebinca the local coconut drink will let you unmoved from this place.

Thick palm groves all around, dramatic red cliffs, rocky outcrops on the beach, a 17thcentury Portuguese fort, and two fresh water springs nearby, make Vagator a truly spectacular beach. The setting is one of the prettiest in North Goa. It is a rocky and sandy beach, just like the entrance to the sea. The sandy strip is wider, broader and longer in the north. The sea bottom is deep, and the water is sometimes very rough. So you should be careful while swimming. There are however some naturally appearing placid bays in the southern part of the beach.

Other than the peaceful atmosphere, the beautiful scenery and things like snorkeling and fishing it has no other specific attractions. But you can find small beach stalls that provide you with local Goan dishes. The scenic view of the golden beach surrounded by the palm trees, fresh water springs lets you to play, and above all these numerous cottages found everywhere gives a spectacular view and makes accommodation also easy. Many famous beaches like the Calangute, Colva and the Baga surround the Vagator beach and you can easily enjoy the fun of all these beaches. You can visit the Chopra fort that is adjacent to this beach that is almost 500 years old. You can capture the view of emerald green waters if you move to the Lava rocks and cliffs that are located towards the southern side of the Ozran beach. Local handicrafts and the souvenirs can be purchased in the nearby markets.

People of Chopra village are happy with the rural dwelling and enjoy their life with what they have and this is what we require for the betterment of the country. Their occupation is fishing and you will find fresh catches at this place. Men with their wages are welcomed in a special way by their wife’s and children and this makes a happy family. The cottages of this place are still influenced by the Portuguese. The viceroy of Goa constructed the Chopra fort in 1717 and when you climb up the Chopra fort you get to see a spectacular view of the blue sea surrounded by the green mountains. This fort still holds the historical marks that were made during the Marathas invasion.

Coming up to the accommodation it is really a difficult task so you need to plan out well in advance to enjoy your vacation. For a better and luxury stay over you need to move to the Baga or Colva beach. You can find some cottages and guesthouses near by but most of them are unavailable. Except for this, Vagator beach is surely going to light you up with the best hang out.

Bogmalo Beach is a fresh package, as it dose not come under the list of popular beaches. It is surrounded by palm trees and is basically not so crowded. It is mainly known for fishing and is near to the northern headlines of the Colva Bay. This beach is vast and has ceaseless area of the golden sand. You can view the tiny boats moving out for their everyday catches before they vanish away from the scene ahead of the inward surfs. You can take a cab or a bus which 8 kms away from the Vasco-da-Gama. As this beach is quite admired by the locals, it will be busy during the weekends, but here there is nothing additional to the sound of waves and the scream of the sea gulls to break off one’s stay.

Accommodation:

Considering the other beaches of Goa, finding a stay over is not a difficult task in Bogmalo. There are few comfort hotels and cottages where they offer you with an international food, foreign spas and massages including all the current day facilities.
It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Goa. It is bounded by hills on both sides that make it calm and pleasant. The unique part of this Beach is regarding the shape that it is semi-circular, and the best thing is the view of the complete beach standing at one particular place. And it takes about 40 minutes in a bus right from Margao, the main town of Southern Goa. This beach is not too messy, with just fishermen being the visitors over here. And because of this reason the beauty is still observed, and you get to understand the nature in its best way. Sorry to say but the visitors are cheated with over priced sellers. However there are people selling mehendi mixing with cheaper chemicals.

Attractions:

There is a stream called the Pandava’s Drum that keeps its trail open to the cup shaped valley. Swimming in the Palolem beach should be taken care of, as there are boulders and rocks scattered in the sea has to would hurt you. However, the water is pretty much less and the currents are comparatively weaker than rest of the beaches, so it must not be too much to bother about. The “Money Stone” is a confined pilgrimage site. There is a saying that even if you leave or take the money which does not belong to you; the locals of this place are so simple and honest that they do not even think of going against the rules. You can also visit to the small cave built by the Figueiredo family in beach house. But unfortunately Vandals spoiled it, and therefore now it’s a part of the Neptune Point hotel. This beach is situated very close to the market of Chaudi, where you can find all your requirements. Please do not miss the butterfly beach at the boat trip and here you are allowed to join the fishermen to catch the fishes with the help of your hand and also grasp a sight of the mischievous dolphins moving around. The town marketplace is a little far away, and you get to buy the junk jewelry, handicrafts and souvenirs made by the locals. You can even go in for spices that Goa is famous for.

Nearby Attractions in Palolem Beach

Some of best attractions nearby include Saint Tereza Of Jesus, Pantem beach, Shree Dutta Guru Mandir, Pantem – Colomb beach, Pandava’s Drum, Bumipurush Temple are some of the nearby attractions. All of these are at short destinations and are good places for photography, short walks and memories to take along. However, the main attraction remains the Palolem beach only.

Accommodation:

Palolem is the best destination for the tourists looking forward to a calm beach vacation. It is very difficult to find the stay over as the other beaches. You can find the guesthouses and the usual inns, but they are always full. For the food, check out for the shacks that serves you hot, and spicy Goan special food and prawns with different kinds of pickles. Also you can choose the genuine seafood that is cooked mainly the prawns, fish and the lobsters freshly brought in from the sea. Here people opt for the beach huts that are usually full throughout the year. Some parts of the beach are empty and there you can find only cliffs and boulders scattered all over, and in particular you can’t find any inhabitants. However the beauty of this place is despoiled. Spending a day just by lying under the shades of the palm trees is good enough, along with it you can enjoy the sound of waves crashing which wakes you up. The simple way to reach the beach is through the Canacona Railway Station, which is adjacent to the beach. To roam around in the beach, you can opt for the bikes and auto rickshaws. Even cycles are the best options that you can rent from the natives. You will not find your daily life facilities on this beach, but the nature’s beauty of this place will compensate for your inconveniences. Just a visit to the tranquil beach will let you forget about the buzz of the urban life.
