History of Chennai

During the pre-colonial era from 1st to 12th century entire Tamil nadu was ruled by the Cholas. Later the Pallavas of Kanchi overthrew the Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas dynasty and ruled Chennai and some parts of south region in Indian country. Many monuments were built during their rule in and around Chennai. Later the Vijayanagara Empire conquered Chennai and ruled for a long time.

In the year 1522, the Portuguese arrived on the shores of Tamil Nadu. They built establishments in some parts ot the region. In 1612, the Dutch arrived in Tamil Nadu and established themselves. Chennai witnessed the arrival of the British East India Company in the year 1639, who later bought land from the then King Damarla Chennappa Nayakudu. Battles were fought between the British, the French, Portuguese and the Dutch in order to gain supremacy over the region. Eventually the British succeeded and thrived in the region waging wars against every princely occupied place in South India.

History of Gajraula

In 479 B.C, Gajraula was under the control of Raja Amarjoda who ruled Amroha region. From 676 to 1141A.D the Rajputs of Meewar had Gajraula under their control. In 1093 A.D Mohamud of Ghazni invaded Amroha and Gajraula fell into his hands. During the year 1240 to 1242 Gajraula was under the administration of Jalaluddin Khalji who was appointed as Hakim. Gajraula had witnessed the rule of the Delhi Sultanate and later the Mughals. After the fall of the Mughals the British East India Company took Gajraula under their control. Their rule ended in the year 1947, when India achieved Independence after a prolonged freedom struggle.
